Amelia Muñoz Bourne, age 60, passed away on December 15, 2011, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She died of metastatic uterine carcinosarcoma after a two year battle with cancer; she was surrounded by family and friends.

She was born on January 1, 1951 in Murray, Utah to Guadalupe Muñoz and Maria Concepcion Nogales Muñoz. She married John M. Bourne on January 9, 1971.

She worked as an interviewer for Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Utah. In 1990 she was hired by the U.S. Army as Civilian Family Program Assistant. She was promoted to Family Program Director for 96th Regional Support Command (Ft. Douglas) and later as Family Program Director for U.S. Army Reserve Joint and Special Troops Support Command. She served supporting families through Desert Storm, Bosnia, Iraq War and Afghanistan War for over 20 years. She was awarded the Department of The Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award upon her Medical Retirement from the Army Civilian Service.

She is survived by husband of 41 years, John Michael Bourne, son William Ramon Bourne, daughter Elizabeth (Dean) Bourne White, father Lupe Muñoz, mother Maria Muñoz, 2 sisters; Maria (Jesse) Deollos, Irma (Jr.) Martinez, 3 brothers; Lupe (Shery) Muñoz, Jr., Manuel (Melody)Muñoz, and Martin (Barbara) Muñoz, many nieces and nephews, plus a number of good friends and "her soldiers".

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Vincent's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to Huntsman Cancer Foundation, please feel free to wear something purple (Amelia's favorite color.) On line condolences may be sent to www.memorialutah.com.
