DALLAS - Martha C. Garvin, 79, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2006 at a Dallas care center.

Graveside service: 10 a.m. Saturday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, Colleyville. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Philip Presbyterian Church, 745 W. Pipeline Road, Hurst. Open visitation: 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home.

She was born June 16, 1927, in Stephen City, Va., to the Rev. J. Hoge Smith, who was born in Danville, Va., and Virginia Catherine Duckwall, who was born in Burlington, W.Va.

Martha was a graduate of of Randolph Henry High School, Charlotte Court House, Va., and Flora McDonald College, Red Springs, N.C. She served as a Bible teacher at Wallace High School, Wallace, N.C.

She married the Rev. James F. Garvin and served with him in pastorates in Chinquapin, N.C.; Mineral Wells, First Presbyterian Church, Fort Worth; St. Philip Presbyterian Church, Hurst; St. Giles Presbyterian Church, Fort Worth; and the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, Bella Vista, Ark, where he retired in June 1989. She was most recently a member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church of Dallas.

Survivors: Brother, the Rev. J. Hoge Smith Jr.; sisters, Virginia Henderlite and Ruth Park; daughter, Catherine Louise Garvin; son, James Francis Garvin Jr.; daughter-in-law, Frances June Patrick Garvin; twin granddaughters, Rebecca June Garvin and Molly Catharine Garvin Spiller and husband, Jonathon Phillip Spiller; and grandson, James Patrick Garvin.
