Ursula Vivian (Stokes) Lynds - 96, Truro, formerly of Lower Debert, passed away peacefully, Sunday, December 18, 2011, at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born April 3, 1915, in Sackville, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Winslow and Hazel (Lane) Stokes and moved to Truro at the age of four.

She attended Willow Street School and Colchester County Academy. She worked in Truro for several years and in 1934 married Frank G. Lynds and moved to Lower Debert where she resided for 66 years. She moved back to Truro on May 26, 2000. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and an adherent of Erskine United Church, Glenholme. She was president of United Church Women for over 40 years, chairperson of Board of Trustees, president of Cobequid PC Women's Association for two years and also was president of Colchester North PC Women's Association for two years and a member of the Executive. A volunteer worker for Red Cross, she was in charge of Sick Room Loan Equipment for 25 years. She was a correspondent for Truro Daily News, Weekly News, Recorded Shoreline and was interested in all community affairs and church.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Ursula is survived by her brother-in-law, Harold Lusby, Amherst; sisters-in-law, Shirley Stokes, Gertrude Stokes, Truro; Lorraine Stokes, Murray River, Prince Edward Island; Dorothy Burnet, Bible Hill; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frank Gesner Lynds; infant daughter; sister, Eileen Lusby; brothers, Cyril, Roy and Brice Stokes.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Ursula's family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2011. Funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2011, in Erskine United Church, 983 Highway 2, Glenholme, Reverend Cory Somers officiating, and Reverend Don MacQueen assisting. Interment in Folly Village Cemetery, Glenholme. Reception will follow in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Immanuel Baptist Church, Erskine United Church, Folly Village Cemetery or charity of choice are welcomed.
