Christopher Hendershot was named in several different documents in Hunterdon New Jersey and Morris County, New Jersey from 1766 through 1803. Christopher declared an "insolvent debtors" (bankruptcy) in 1796 and was jailed for 10 months. Christopher surrendered all his property except that "needed of my wife and children". Christopher then moved to Clarkson Ontario Canada around 1804-5.

Christopher married three times:
His first wife was Margrith Vandusen who died ca1775 in New Jersey USA. It is thought that Christopher had 4 children with Margrith. His second wife's surname was Vansickle and his third wife was Christine Smith. It is thought that Christopher may have had 11 children with Christine Smith. I have been unable to identify who the mother was for each of his children.

Family allegiances were divided during the American Revolution and the descendants of Michael Hendershot's son Casper immigrated to the Niagara Peninsula as United Empire Loyalists. Twenty years later Christopher (Christian) Hendershot and his family of 20 children also immigrated to Canada, settling near Hamilton, Ontario.
