Lizzie was born to a pioneer family in the Cherokee section of northwest Georgia. Her father, James Jonathan Taylor, was killed in the Civil War. For this reason, she hated Lincoln. Her mother was Lavinia Jane "Vina Jane" Howell. Lizzie was raised in Chattooga County, Georgia but moved to Waco, Texas in 1894, where she met her husband, James Richard Hailey. He was a railroad man so they moved about frequently, living in Ogden, Cheyenne, Pocatello, and Iron County, Utah, among other places served by the Union Pacific RR. She was a beautiful woman and the mother of two daughters, Jennie Viney and Annie May. She made beautiful patchwork quilts, some of which are still in the family today. She was my great-grandmother.
