She was born on Sept. 12, 1919, in Canalou, MO., the daughter of Lee Allen and Sheila (MIDCALF) Greer.
She married Clarence Essex, who died in 1977.
Mrs. Essex was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Freida Sheible of Mounds and JoAnn Sissom of Olive branch; nine sons, Henry Rodgers of East Cape Girardeau, Lawrence Rodgers of Springs Hill, Fla., Dewey Rodgers of Kimmswick, Mo., Gary Rodgers, Arthur Rodgers and Louis Rodgers, all of Olive Branch, Mickey Rodgers of Scott City, Mo., Ronnie Rodgers of Old Town, Fla., and Steve Essex of Olive Branch; one stepdaughter, Joyce Bearden of Avery, Texas; 45 grandchildren; 101 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents; one son, Harley Rodgers in 1987; a step-son, Donnie Essex in 1970; a step-daughter, Susan Essex in 1959; one grandchild; four great-grandchildren; five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were at 10a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, at Alexander Freewill Baptist Church in Olive Branch with the Rev. Earnest Brown officiating. Interment was in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens.
