In 1900 when the Federal Census was enumerated Etta was living with her Mom & younger brother, Arthur, in the Polkville area of Cleveland County, NC.

However, much is unknown about Etta. The informant on her death certificate thought Rtta's mother's name was "Liner Bowen", but didn't know her father's name. He/she knew she was born in North Carolina, but not the location. Other records indicate her mother was Julia, and her son Woodrow's death certificate gave her maiden name as Waters.

Records indicate on 26 Dec 1909 Etta married John M. Cogdell in Cleveland County, NC.

They were listed as the parents of two children - Victoria Elzoria and Zennie May.

Daughter Victoria's death certificate stated her Father's name Fate Waterson, however her delayed birth certificate indicates John Cogdell as her Dad. Was Etta married for a short period to Mr. Waterson, or did those who gave the information for Victoria's death certificate confuse the Waterson name with Waters?

On 10 Nov 1912 Etta married Onnie A Bowen in Cleveland County, NC.

They were the parents of two children - Woodrow Wilson & Gertha.

Etta's life was short as she passed away at only 30 years of age from bronchopneumonia a side effect of measles on the 2nd day of April in 1918.

Etta was buried in a plot that today has no marker and Onnie reared her children.

Let's not forget...She was the second wife of Leonidas Alexander "Onnie Bowen. They were married Nov. 12, 1912. Etta is the mother of Woodrow Bowen and Girthie Bowen Turner. Etta's grave has no marker.
