PAWNEE PRESS, Wednesday, October, 12, 1887.
Andy Butler and his wife of St. Joseph, are in the city spending a few weeks visiting relatives and friends. Mrs. Butler was long and invariably known here as Miss Lucy Manning, and was raised in this county, as was the husband also. Mr. B. is enjoying a good position on the St. Joe Gazette, and the many friends of this young couple in this county are gratified over the successful start they have made in life.

In the 1870 US Federal Census for Pawnee, Nebraska Territory, 48-year-old physician J. N. [Jeremiah N] McCasland owns $5,000 in real estate and $1,000 in personal property. He and his 30-year-old wife E.A. [Elizabeth Ann Woods] McCasland have in their household their children, 21-year-old Louisa, 19-year-old Elnora [Rachel Elnora McCasland] Butter [Butler], 14-year-old Lilly, 9-year-old Minnie, 5-year-old Ettie, one-month old Herman, and their grandson, Elnora's child 3-year-old Andrew Butter [Butler]. Minnie and the younger children were all born in Nebraska, while Lilly, Elnora, Louisa and their parents were all born in Indiana. Lillie, Minnie and Hattie have all attended school in the past year. Elnora must have married when she was 15 or 16 years old.

Andrew was recorded twice on the 1880 US Federal Census, the first time in Pawnee, Pawnee, Nebraska with his aunt and uncle as Andrew Butler, and the second time in St Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri with his step-father and mother as Andrew Hill.

In the 1880 US Federal Census for Pawnee, Pawnee, Nebraska, 36-year-old Indiana-born farmer James M Butler and his 32-year-old Indiana-born wife Louisa [McCasland] Butler have in their household their nephew 13-year-old Nebraska-born Andrew Butler, Louisa's sister Rachel Elnora McCasland Butler Hill's son. Andrew works on the farm. James' father was born in Virginia and his mother was born in North Carolina. Louisa's and Andrew's parents were born in Indiana.

In the 1880 US Federal Census for St Joseph, Buchanan, Missoui, 30-year-old Missouri-born printer Benjamen [sic] and his 26-year-old [sic she's 29-years old] Missouri-born [sic] wife Carry [sic Rachel Elnora McCasland] Hill have in their household her 14-year-old Missouri-born [sic] son Andrew Butler whose last name is recorded as Hill, and their two Missouri-born [sic] daughters, 10-year-old Jessee [sic] and 3-year-old Bessie. Benjamin, Rachel and Andrew's parents were born in Kentucky [sic], and Jessee and Bessie father in Missouri and their mother in Indiana [sic].

Andrew died 1 Aug 1896 and was buried in Pawnee City Cemetery (Plot orig 74-4), Pawnee City, Pawnee, Nebraska (Find A Grave Memorial# 82106127). This is confirmed by the 1900 US Federal Census for St Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri, in which 49-year-old Indiana-born wife Ella [sic] R [Rachel Elnora McCasland] Hill has born three children, but only two are living, her daughters from her marriage to Benjamin Hill. Therefore Andrew , her son from her first marriage to Mr. Butler, died before the Census date.
