COLUMBIA — Service with military honors for Major Gordon Harold Holscher, U.S. Army (Ret.), 85, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 9161, Columbia, S.C. 29290-9161 or to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605. Visitation will be Monday 5-7 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Major Holscher, husband of the late Jemima Parker Holscher, died Friday, February 11, 2005. Born in Robinsdale, Minn., he was the son of the late John Leo and Ella Swanson Holscher. Retired after twenty-eight years in the U.S. Army, he was awarded the Purple Heart, having served during WW II and the Korean War.

Major Holscher was a fifty-year member of Ft. Jackson Masonic Lodge #374, Jamil Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite. A recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, he was a Boy Scout leader and coached Little League Baseball. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and a coin collector.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Gordon H., II and Patricia Holscher of Columbia; granddaughters and their husbands, Jill and Jamey Stancell of Lexington and Jacqueline and Derek Snipes of Dillon; and great-grandchildren, Eryn Snipes, Jeremy Snipes and Katie Stancell; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Timothy Parker Holscher.

Major Holscher loved people and was a friend to everyone.
