The last of nine siblings born to Finnish immigrants John and Ida Maki, Lillian was a proud "Yooper", first marrying at the age of 16 to Frans Oscar Kuula. Lillian and Frans had five children, Allen, Delores, Arlene, Virginia and Carol. In addition to being a homemaker, Lillian worked for two years at Buick Motor Division during World War II, building aircraft engines and Hellcat tank destroyers, ("like Rosie the Riveter"). Lillian Married John Dahlberg in 1947, enjoying life together until his death in 1986.
