As a child, Clara's family lived in several Illinois locations, eventually ending up in Streator, La Salle Co. where she married her first husband, Tignal Franklin (Frank) COX on 21 June 1876. Frank was an artist and moved around a lot. The 1880 Census found them living in Center, Greene Co., Missouri with Frank's parents. By 1883-1884 she and Frank had divorced.

On 28 December 1887 Clara married Louis E. PEDDICORD in Streator, La Salle Co., Illinois; they were divorced before 1900.

At the time of the 1900 Census, Clara and her daughters Myrtle and Zella, and Myrtle's husband George LEONARDY, are living at 104 N. Second St. in Streator. Clara is the Head of Household and her occupation is dressmaker. In 1910, she and daughter Zella are at the same address. Clara's occupation is nurse.

By the 1920 Census, Clara is at the same address, with daughter Zella and granddaughters Jackie and Gwen; Zella is listed as the Head of Household. Shortly after this, the family relocated to the Los Angeles Co., California area.

The 1922 California Voter Registration records show Clara living at 120 W. Center St.. Covina, Los Angeles Co., California with daughter Myrtle and son-in-law George LEONARDY. She lived there until her death on 8 February 1939 from arteriosclerosis. She was cremated. The location of her ashes is unknown.
