Suggested edit: Maria Elisabeth Hirni, was born 21 April 1837 in Beatenberg, Switzerland. She is the daughter of Christian Hirni and Elisabetha Bühlmann. Maria emigrated to Highland, Ill. in Jan 1845 with her father, her mother having died in 1838 in Switzerland. She married Niklaus Gilomen of Helvetia Township, on 1 January 1856. Niklaus and Elisabeth Hirni Gilomen lived and farmed in several places around Highland before settling permanently in Marine Township in the 1860s. They celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in 1906, and ultimately survived seven of their eight children. Elisabeth died on 15 November 1911 from edema ("dropsy"). She is buried with Niklaus in Highland City Cemetery.
