His two older brothers, Alexander and Walter, both died very young from malaria. His parents feared that he would died next if they did not do something so they moved to the dry climate of West Texas and settled in Fisher County.

He married Maudie Viola Sargent on Sunday, June 14, 1908 in Rotan, Fisher County, Texas. They were blessed with five children: Annie "Florence" Deel McGaugh, Bertie Mae Deel Robinson, Avery Emmett Deel, Lindsey Graves Deel, and Ollie Ivan Deel.

He farmed in Fisher County until moving to Howard County in 1924. He farmed in Howard County and worked at the Big Spring Co-op for more than 20 years.

He died on Thursday, February 17, 1966 at 8:55a.m. in Big Spring. He was 77 years old.

At the time of his death he had 29 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.

I can still see my grandfather sitting in his easy chair in front of the fireplace. He always kept a bag full of sugar coated orange slices to give to his grandchildren. He was a wonderful grandfather and I loved him very much and miss him to this day.
