Alton A. Barber, 86, of Flowood, passed away Friday, December 9, at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland. His loving wife of 64 years, Betty Holloway Barber, was by his side.

A veteran of World War II, Alton served in the Navy on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Altamaha in the Pacific Theatre. He graduated from Mississippi State University and later retired after 27 years in the U.S. Army Reserve and 38 years of federal government service. In retirement, Alton and Betty served many happy years as volunteer missionaries for the North American Mission Board. Hundreds of Bibles were distributed in Mexico through their efforts.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Holloway Barber, three sons: Gerald (Liz) and Tim (Libby) of Ridgeland and Terry (Margaret) of Montgomery, AL. He had seven grandchildren: Chad (Tonya), Rebecca (Brad), Abby (Matthew), Nash, Peden (Savannah), David, Michael and four great-grandchildren: Logan, Will, Taylor and Harper.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Ott and Lee Funeral Home, Brandon. Visitation will also be on Monday from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Flowood Baptist Church, followed by the funeral at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be Monday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church Carriere, MS.

Memorial gifts may be made to Flowood Baptist Church Building Fund, 1649 Old Fannin Road, Flowood, MS 39232 or to a charity of your choice .
