Janet Katherine Adsit

Janet Katherine Adsit, 69, of Athens, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

A former resident of Huntsville, Ala., and Athens for the past 13 years, she was a daughter of the late Francis Wayne "Sy" Adsit. She was a member of Mars Hill Presbyterian Church and was an employee of Athens Regional Medical Center, where she worked as a lab technician. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Jeanette Smith.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Daniel and Melissa Smith of Athens, Ala., and Michael Eugene Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; her mother, Madeline Joy Penney Adsit of Athens; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Elizabeth Adsit of Riceville, and David and Debbie Adsit of Huntsville, Ala.; one granddaughter, Allison Smith.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Mars Hill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Leslie Rust officiating. A private family burial at McMinn Memory Gardens will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mars Hill Presbyterian Church, 205 N. Jackson St., Athens, TN 37303.

Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
