Known his whole life as "Neil", he was born near McKinley, Alabama to John J. McCorkle (1816 N.C.-1895 Marengo County, Al)and Elizabeth McLeod (1826 N.C.-1873 Marengo County, Al)
Neil moved to Girard, La., at the urging of his cousin John D. McCorkle and went into the mercantile business with him. It was in Girard that he met his future wife Bessie Brashear. Neil and Bessie moved to several different towns in Louisiana before eventually settling in Athens, Georgia around 1910. Neil and Bessie Brashear McCorkle had 11 children, but one child, a twin to their last born son Douglas, died at birth and his burial place is unknown at this time.

Neil is not linked to his parents because I do not know where they are interred, though I suspect that it is the McKinley Cemetery in Marengo County, Al.(I searched this entire cemetery but did not find them.)Nor do I know the resting places of his maternal grandparents Neill McLeod (1794 N.C.- Jan. 1863 Marengo County, Al) and Elizabeth Butler (1797 N.C. - before April 1846 probably Marengo County, Al.) His paternal grandparents are Francis McCorkle, Jr. #106468544 and Elizabeth Abernethy McCorkle #96633283.

The 6 children of John J. McCorkle and Elizabeth McLeod are: William Butler McCorkle (never married), Elizabeth Brandon McCorkle Coats (Edward), Frances Margaret "Fannie" McCorkle Pope (James C.), Sarah Kathryn "Kate" McCorkle Coats (William), Francis Neil McCorkle, and John Alexander McCorkle.
