Attended Hampden-Sidney College in 1855-56,recevied a BA from Washington College in 1858.A bank clerk and farmer before the Civil War.Commissioned a Captain of Company E,14th Virginia Infantry,later served with Company K,56 Virginia Infantry in Pickett's Division.One of the few men who crossed the stone wall at Gettsyburg during Pickett's charge on July 3rd,1863.Captured and spent the rest of the war in various union prisons.After the war he attended Union Theological Seminary in Richmond and became a Presbyterian minster.He served in Winchester Presbytery from 1868-1870,then at Romney Springfoeld,West Virginia 1870-1892.Married Margaret Elizabeth Booker and they had nine children.
