Mary Catherine Dreffs, 87 died on May 5, 2011 at Tendercare Health Center in Munising, MI. She was born to the late Michael and Anna (Pawlus) Piorunek on July 9, 1923 in Sandusky, Michigan. She graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1942. She married Victor Dreffs on June 10, 1944. They were married 47 years before he preceded her in death on February 4, 1992. She worked for the Collon Funeral Home and Bad Axe Tribune Newspaper, Plymouth Auto, and spent most of her working life at Park Metal Products side by side with her husband. She retired in 1989. Before she became ill she was a very dedicated member of St. Mark?s Catholic Church in Warren, MI. Her faith was very important to her. Mary loved to sew making most of her own clothes, and also made clothes including wedding gowns for her children and grandchildren. She often made her granddaughters matching dresses and dresses for their dolls as well. She loved to garden and would can most of the vegetables and fruit she grew. She loved spending time at her cottage at Round Lake in the Upper Peninsula. There each fall she would harvest and can ?stumpers? ? mushrooms that grew wild there. She is survived by her children Victor (Rose) Dreffs, Linda (Gerald) Schwake, Susan (Jon) Passinault; 5 grandchildren Analisa (Chris) Collins, Shannan (John) Davis, Catherine (Scott) Adams, Wesley (Jessie) Passinault, and Kelly (Travis) Passinault. Mary was blessed with 7 Great Grandchildren which she so enjoyed visiting with?Jessey, Aerwyn, Kaleigh, Payton, Andrew, Rhedyn, and Hayden; Sisters Ann (A.D.) McClellen, Emilie (Ray) Filary, and Frances (Fred) Brandon. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Victor, brothers John Pronek, Joseph Piorunek, and Frankie Piorunek; sisters Stella Piorunek, Bertha Piorunek, Edna Pluto, and Rosalie Piorunek. Visitation for Mary will be held at the E.J. Mandziuk and Sons Funeral Home, 22642 Ryan Road in Warren, MI from 2-9 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. Mass of the Christian Burial 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 13 at St. Mark Catholic Church Mrs. Dreffs will lie instate at Church from 9:00am until time of mass. Burial will be at the Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
