Born January 27, 1919 in Bury, England, Mavis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and James Reardon of Mashpee, six grandchildren: James Reardon of Boynton Beach, Florida, Joseph Reardon of Brockton, MA., Jennifer Walters of Mashpee, MA., Peter Benoit Jr. of North Carolina, Christopher Benoit of Stoughton, MA., and Amanda Benoit of Maine. She also leaves 11 great grandchildren.
Mavis was the wife of the late Charles Benoit and the mother of the late Peter Benoit.
She was the daughter of the late William and Kate Fox and sister to the late Daisy Ellington, Sgt. Harold (Peter) Fox, and Winifred Fox, all having resided in England.
Mavis was in the Royal Air Force during WWII where she met her husband and married in 1945. She came to America in 1946 and made her home in Brockton, MA. Until moving to Cape Cod in 1998. She was a member of the Golden Ages, Senior Citizens and Ladies Auxiliary VFW in Brockton.
Mavis's greatest loves were reading, gardening, and taking trips with the Senior Citizens, where she made many friends along the way.
Visiting hours will be Friday, November 4, 2011 from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at The Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne MA. Burial services immediately following at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mashpee Public Library, 68 Steeple Street, Mashpee, MA. 02649.
