A memorial service for John Lincoln "Jack" Shetterly of Willamina will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Willamina VFW Hall.
Mr. Shetterly died Dec. 26, 2002. He was 80.
He was born July 20, 1922, in Eugene. He moved with his family to Willamina before he was a year old. He graduated from Willamina High School in 1940, then attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Mo., for two years.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served in World War II. After completing his military service, he returned to Willamina.
He and Joan Aase were married Dec. 26, 1947.
Mr. Shetterly worked as a bookkeeper for Garrabrant Lumber until 1956, when he became the postmaster of Willamina. He and his wife operated the K.E. Shetterly Hardware store from 1965 to 1973, when the store was sold. He retired from the Postal Service in 1982.
He served as mayor of Willamina in 1983-84.
Mr. Shetterly was a charter member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Willamina. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also had been active in Kiwanis, the Willamina Chamber of Commerce and the Boy Scouts.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Shetterly of Portland and Rick Shetterly of Tigard; a daughter, Vicki Johnson of Reno, Nev.; four sisters, Maxine Williams of McMinnville, Lynette Cross of Portland, Kaye Vaughn of Reno and Julie Steffanoff of Columbia, Md.; a brother, Robert Shetterly of Vancouver, Wash.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
