Inscription: Under the paternal roof, a blessing. A devoted husband, a parent tender, judicious, provident. A friend sincere and consistent, of integrity unreproached and irreproachable. He was a Colonel of the 22nd Regiment, a Senator in the General Assembly and a Captain of the Kershaw Volunteers of 1836 in Florida, where he contracted the disease which eventually closed his useful and honorable career. His life furnished a beautiful example how a good man should live: His death how a Christian can die. This stone the least expressive memorial of her bereavement is erected by his widow.
