The son of Jacob & Katherine "Carrie" (Oliver) Sanders, in 1860 he lived with his farming family in Derry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 2" tall and had light hair and blue eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg February 13, 1865, overstating his age by two years, mustered into federal service there February 14 as a private with Co. C, 192nd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company August 24, 1865. His brother Penrose Oliver Sanders served with him. On October 9, 1866, Brisban enlisted in Harrisburg with the regular army, assigned as a private to Co. I, 15th U.S. Infantry (also serving with Co. G), and honorably discharged at term's end October 9, 1869, at Fort Bayard, New Mexico Territory, a corporal.
He died of "apoplexy cerebral" and at the time of his death was divorced. Strangely, his obituary in the Harrisburg Patriot identifies him as "Christopher" Sanders, but there is no indication that was anything more than an error.
