Mae was the daughter of Rufus and Mary (Thorne) Bouton. She was the youngest of nine children. Her father Rufus died in January 1880 and her mother was left to raise about five children by herself. Mae married Harry Warner son of William R. and Jennie (Crittenden) Warner December 24, 1898 in Albion, Michigan. She had three children: Marjorie, Ruth, and Harold.
