Blane Bert "Tex" Burchett passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2011 at Frye Regional Medical Center. A native of Grayson County, Va., he was the son of the late Hershel Burchett and Callie Haga Hawks. He was a lineman for the City of Newton Electrical Department and a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a Corporal in the Korean Conflict. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June Killian; son, Larry Burchett; and a sister, Ruby Anderson.

A Service of Remembrance will be held Thursday, Dec. 1, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Conover with the Rev. Vernon Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Conover City Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12 to 12:45 p.m. at Drum Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658. Condolences may be sent to the Burchett family at www.drumfuneralhome.com. The Burchett family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Conover.

He and his late son, Larry, knew anything and everything about the City of Newton's water, sewer and electric utility lines.
