Prince of Wallachia. Born the son of Vlad cel Tânar or Vlad the Younger, he was called Vlad Înecatul. After Moise Prince of Wallachia, son of Vladilsav III, rebelled against the Ottoman overlords of the region, Vlad was appointed ruler in his stead. Vlad invaded Wallechia in May 1530 and by June, Moise had to take refuge in Sibiu. With the backing of the Holy Roman Emperor, Moise re-entered Wallachia and fought Vlad at Viisoara on August 29, 1530. Vlad defeated and killed Moise in the conflict. Once firmly in power, Vlad commissioned the construction of the Viforâta Monastery in Aninoasa. After little more than two years on the throne, Vlad's death, and nickname, followed a night of heavy drinking. The inebriated Prince rode his horse into the Dâmbovita River and was drowned.
