Maxine attened East High School at the time of her death. By the time she was fourteen years old, she had developed a love for dancing and was a student at the LDS School of Music.
The night of December 29, Maxine and her cousin Louis, along with a few other children, left Maxine's house shortly before eight o'clock to go sledding. Three other children rode on one sled, while Maxine and Louis followed behind them on a seperate sled.
At the corner of Bryan Avenue and 12th East, Louis and Maxine's sled was struck by a car as it turned the corner. They died instantly.
Both are buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
