From the Fall River Herald News, June 9, 1932:
Nathan Winslow Davis, one of Freetown's prominent and highly respected citizens, suddenly passed away Tuesday evening from a heart attack at North Taunton, where he had spent the winter. Mr. Davis was born in Assonet, March 19, 1857, and was in his 76th year. He was the son of Charity H. Winslow and Nathan R. Davis and was one of two children, his brother, William A. Davis, having passed away in May, 1928.

His wife, Clara Bumpus Davis, died about four years ago. He had been a resident of this town all his life, excepting the winter months which he usually spent in Florida. He was a partner with his father in the business of the N. R. Davis & Sons gun factory, as was also his late brother, William. They manufactured sporting guns, and after the death of his father, he and his brother, William and Rufus P. Davis carried on the business until 1916 when it was sold to the Warner Arms company and went under the name of Davis & Warner Arms corporation, which continued for two years when the machinery was moved to Norwick, Conn., where the business is now carried on under the name of The Crescent Davis Arms corporation at Chicopee Falls, Mass.

Mr. Davis travelled extensively in his younger days, attended the public schools in Freetown, Middleboro High and the Chelsea Military academy at Cheshire, Conn. He was a representative in the legislature from Freetown in 1911 and had also held the office of town treasurer of Freetown. It was his custom to spend a spring vacation in New Hampshire where he greatly enjoyed the sport of fishing. He was a great lover of house and family and although of quiet and retiring disposition he won for himself many friends. He was a member of the Narragansett lodge, F.A.M., Godfrey de Bouillon commandery, Knights Templars of Fall River, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine and Sabatia lodge, I.O.O.F. of Taunton. He was also greatly interested in the Taunton Rotary club and in the churches of Assonet.

Mr. Davis is survived by five nephews, Clarence R. Davis, Fall River; William M. Davis, Clinton V. Davis and Richard W. Davis, Assonet, and Hollis Davis of Providence; two nieces, Mrs. Ernest C. Grinnell of River Edge, N.J. and Mrs. Myron Briggs of Norton, and a brother, Rufus P. Davis, Assonet. The funeral services will take place Saturday afternoon at 2 from his late residence on Elm street.
