Modesta G. Fernández, age 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2001.
Modesta is survived by her sons, Frank Fernández and his wife, Martha and José "Joe" Fernández Jr., all of Denver, CO, daughters, Tillie Sánchez and her husband, Louis and Consuelo Edmister and her husband, Richard, all of Albuquerque and Lorraine Sánchez and her husband, Dennis of Taos, NM, 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, brothers, Joe E. García and his wife, Raquel of Pueblo, CO, Ernestino García of California and Ray García and his wife, Betty of Taos, NM, sisters, Viola Fernández and her husband, Juan, Virginia Sánchez and her husband, Luby and Angelina Canales and her husband, Richard, all of California.
Modesta was preceded in death by her husband, José "Joe" T. Fernandez on March 27, 2000, brother, Paul García and grandson, Carlos Sánchez.
Mrs. Fernández was a founding member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, on Sunday, June 3, 2001 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Rosary will be recited on Sunday, June 3, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 4, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Bernadtte Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE, with Father Domingo Gumpal, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Fernández, Pablo Fernández, Phillip Fernández, Jesse Romero, Raul Sánchez and Craig Ferguson.
