My one and only sister, was the oldest of 5 children. She was in high school when mom announced another baby was on the way. ME! She said she was so embarrassed. Little did she know at that time that 3 years later, when she was in college, mom would make that announcement again, but that is another story. Cherie took after dad, very easy going, smart, and she could fix anything, literally, from home repairs, to farm equipment to carpentry work to fixing a bad haircut. She had a creative mind, was artistic and extremely organized. She always had the best wrapped packages at Christmas time with coordinating home made bows. No matter what, you could always count on her. She would never let you down. She was the one who stepped in after dad died and took care of all the farm related business, and she was the one who cared for mom until she herself died. I envisioned we would grow old together and she would live to be well in her 90's. She was too young to die.

Born Oct. 9, 1941, in Rockford, the daughter of Harold E. and Lueva I. (Parker) Brauer. Graduated from Winnebago High School in 1959 and Rockford College in 1965. Cherie taught at Southwestern High School in Piasa. Returning to the area in 1974, she farmed with her father for nine years. Cherie then taught at Simon Elementary School in Winnebago. Changing careers, she was a custodian at Winnebago High School, retiring in December 2000. Cherie was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winnebago and the Illinois Holstein Association. She enjoyed being the assistant volleyball coach and assistant girls basketball coach at Winnebago High School for several years. She also coached 4-H softball teams, winning two state championships. Active in sports, Cherie played ASA softball with the Winnebago Merchants and Alton Lakers. She loved golfing, boating, fishing, water-skiing, snowmobiling and vacationing in Wisconsin with her family and friends. A farmer at heart, she enjoyed gardening and had a true green thumb. Cherie also was known as a carpenter and kept busy with woodworking projects. Her family and Anne would like to thank the caring staff at Rockford Memorial Hospital and Kindred Hospital in Sycamore, and extend a special thanks for the care and support given by Dr. Katherine Andersen and Dr. Donald Rabor. Gravesite Details
There is a memorial marker in the Brauer plot for Cherie, however, she requested her ashes be spread in a lake in Wisconsin. The ashes were given to the POA and we do not know if her wishes were ever honored.
