Dalis Clifton Keefer Sr., 80 of Conrad Sowers Road, where he made his home with his daughter, died Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem after a lengthy illness.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, by the Revs. David Wooten and Edward Pigg. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Mr. Keefer was born April 8, 1925, in St. Louis, Mich., to Floyd Clifton Keefer and Bessie Pearl Barnhart Keefer. He graduated from Boones Mill High School in Boones Mill, Va. He served as a Tech. Sgt. in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. For more than 40 years, he served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent, men's Sunday school teacher and on various other committees at Lakeview Baptist Church, where he was a member. Before retirement with 30 years of service, he was an assistant superintendent for the City of Lexington Water Resources Department. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Bernice Rumley Keefer, on Nov. 2, 1982.
Surviving are his son, Dalis C. Keefer Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Sena Melton and her husband, David, of Lexington; a granddaughter, Becky Matlich; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Keefer of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and a sister, Alice Strouse of Titusville, Fla.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter at 294 Conrad Sowers Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of Davidson County, P.O. Box 1941, Lexington, N.C. 27293.
