Harve was also a Minister of the Gospel, although that was not his primary livelyhood. He listed his occupation as Farmer in Boone County, AR in the 1800 census. In the 1900 census for Ellis County, his occupation was Grocer. Based upon the 1900 census record, we have been able to get an approximate location of where they were living in Ellis County. This was roughly in the area of east of Maypearl and between Greathouse and Boz. History of the Greathouse Baptist Church lists that a Rev Alexander was an early pastor of that church.

He also performed the marriages of John Wiley's brothers Joe and Frank in Newton County in 1871; also he performed the marriage of John Wiley's sister-in-law, Mary Dupree, to Andrew Jackson Hudson, Jr on 18 Feb 1875 .
His Texas death certificate lists his occupation as Preacher.
