Dale Beecher, loving (and exceedingly patient) father, notorious punster, campfire serenader, and un-stumpable font of historical trivia, passed away on November 12, 2011 after a long and heroic struggle to get back to health following a mind-blowingly harrowing series of events in the deserts of Southern Utah (you can read the story at http://bit.ly/daletale).
The son of Asa Leland and Amy Madsen Beecher, Dale was born and raised in Brigham City, UT, until the family moved to River Heights near Logan. A true renaissance man, Dale was, at various points in his life, a ranch-hand, a forest ranger, a U.S. Marine, an LDS missionary to Uruguay, a cultural attaché for the U.S. Foreign Service in Rio de Janeiro, an opera chorus singer, and a Mexican folk dancer, rounding out the balance of his working life as a Curator for the LDS Museum of Church History and Art. His scholastic journey led him to get a Bachelor's degree in agriculture, a Master's in Latin American studies, and a PhD in History.
He married Maureen Ursenbach, with whom he had two children, Daniel (Andrea Morrison) and Bronwen (Daisy Johnson). Together, they had adventures as near as the campgrounds of the Wasatch Mountains and as far flung as the great museums of Europe. His gentle demeanor, indomitable humor, generous nature, and beautiful singing voice made him a favorite of anyone lucky enough to get to know him.
Folks can gather at 3:30 preceding funeral services at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday the 22nd at Garner Funeral Home, 1001 11th Avenue, in Salt Lake.
