He was born March 17, 1922 at Pondcreek, Okla. to Hobert and Lena (Simpson) Alcorn. He was reared and educated in El Dorado and then joined the United States Air Force during World War II.
Following his discharge from service, he returned to Kansas and married Lenora "Darlene" Eshelman on April 26, 1943 in El Dorado. She preceded him in death Jan. 14, 1997. They moved to California and he began his career as an insulator; moving with his job and finally retiring in Wheatland.
He enjoyed raising farm animals, gardening and hunting. He shared his vegetables and eggs, either selling but most of the time giving them away to people in town. Russell was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Asbestos Workers of America Union.
He is survived by two daughters, Caroline Flavin of Oregon and Marolyn Avery of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; one brother, Raymond Alcorn of Towanda; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Memorials to the Platte County Memorial Hospital, 201 14th Street, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201 would be appreciated by the family. (El Dorado Times, October 26, 1999).
