Mary Jane Hicks was born Oct. 13, 1852 at Miami, Miami County, Indiana, and died at her home north of Del Norte, Colorado Dec. 2, 1932 at age 80 years, one month, and 19 days.
On March 29, 1868, she was united in marriage to Mr. Looman Carruthers of Peru, Indiana. To this union eight children were born, all of whom survive. They are: Arthur L. of Lamar; Fred F. of Swan Valley, Idaho; William C. of Del Norte; Mrs. Edith Steward, Mrs. Alice Hefner, and Mrs. Anna Milford, all of Cedarville, Kansas; Miss Della and Mrs. Belle Utley of Del Norte, Colorado.
In the year 1872 the family moved to Cedarville, Kansas where they made their home for many years. Mr. Carruthers died there in June, 1914. Four years later, Mrs. Carruthers came to Del Norte. She had been an invalid the last 30 years. Her son, William, and daughter, Della, with whom she lived, cared for their mother during these years.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon with Pastor Glyn William in charge.
