Eileen S. Archdale, 82, formerly of Peoria, Ill., Menomonee Falls, Wis., and Cape Coral, Fla., died peacefully on Dec. 13, 2010 after a short battle with cancer.

She was born on Sept. 29, 1928 to James and Pauline Kershaw in Peoria County, Ill. As a child she grew up on a farm attending grades 1 thru 7 in a one room school house, often riding to and from in a horse and buggy. She moved into the city to attend high school, graduating at age 16.

Eileen took up the accordion and became a accomplished professional player and at 16 was asked by Lawrence Welk to join his band.
She entered into the work force at 17 as secretary to the president of a furniture store, ending her 43 year career as co-owner of a national distributor of electronic components.
Eileen married Robert (Bob) Archdale in l947. They retired to Cape Coral in 1988. In 1996, they moved to Sarasota. She was a member of Palm Aire Country Club, the Women's Golf Association, the Women's Club, and the Garden Club.

Eileen was a big NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fan. One of her most memorable and exciting experiences was in 1997 when she put on that fire retardant racing suit and climbed into one of Jeff's 750 HP race cars and drove (solo) at Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.

Survivors are husband Bob of 63 years; daughters, Sharon Sterchy (Richard), of Spring, Texas, Cheryl Miller of Tomball, Texas; grandson, Jonathan Sterchy (Emily) of Spring, Texas; and sister-in-law Nancy Hartzel of Alton, Ill.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Interment will follow at Sarasota National Cemetery.
