Indian Wars Medal of Honor Recipient. He was issued the award on August 12, 1875 for his actions as a first sergeant with the 5th US Cavalry, US Army, on March 25, 1873, at the Battle of Turret Peak, Arizona Territory, during the Yavapai War with the Apache Indians. His Medal of Honor citation simply reads: "Gallantry in action."
