She was born July 24, 1914, in Republic County, the daughter of William and Beulah Hobson Curtis. In 1932, she graduated from Scandia High School. A resident of Lyons since 1952, she was a homemaker, a retired elementary school teacher, having taught in Republic County, Bushton and then Lyons, and had served as Housemother at Kansas Wesleyan and the Institute of Logapedics, Wichita.
She belonged to United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Sorosis Club, and was a former Sunday School superintendent, all of Lyons, and also belonged to the Retired Teachers Association.
On Aug. 11, 1948, she married Harold Emery Behnke in Topeka. He died Dec. 9, 1968.
Survivors include: a daughter, Alice J. Griffitt, Liberal; a brother, Rev. Charles Curtis and wife, Betty, Wichita; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ardith Leslie and Ruth Curtis.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Lyons, with the Rev. Dr. Quentin Bennett presiding. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons, and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Lyons Municipal Cemetery.
