William Hugh Adair was born in 1849 in New York. His father Samuel is known, but mother is unknown. He was married to Margaret Wallace in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on 16 Nov 1882. Together they had five children from 1888-1902. From 1890 until his death in 1917, the couple resided in Bay City, Michigan.
