Hosea married Rowena Holt on Nov. 7, 1839 in Shelbyville, TN, Bedford Co. They had 4 sons and 4 daughters, all born in Bedford Co., TN. He was the 6th son and the 7th child of Willis Green and Katherine Humphreys Green.
George Hosea Green was born into a family of Patriotic Americans, his father had served in the War of 1812 and his grandfather fought in the American Revolutionary War. Hosea (as he was known) married Rowena Holt in 1839 and began raising their young family. Their eight children were born in Bedford Co., TN and one died as a young boy. Perhaps his life was so influenced by the willingness of his ancestors to serve, that when the war between the states began, he volunteered into Company I, 23rd Tennessee Regiment, Confederate States Army. Hosea is listed on census records as a farmer, however his service record states his occupation as nurse. Due to the large number and the atrocities of injuries, almost anyone who could tolerate the horrors was recruited as a nurse. Therefore we do not know whether Hosea was actually qualified as a medic, or if he was conscripted into that field. At the battle of Shiloh. Hosea completed his tour of duty and returned to his home in Bedford Co., TN. So in 1869 Hosea joined wagon train of pioneers headed for TX. These early settlers arrived in Tarrant Co. TX and located in Hurst, Euless and Bedford area, naming the town of Bedford for their beloved Bedford Co. TN. The land that Hosea and his family first settled on is now the location of Trinity High School in Euless, TX.
