Alice Maud Wells, the daughter of John Wells and Julia Ann Loveland, grew up in two rather distant Ohio towns: Wooster and Orwell. She married Rollin A. Stevens on July 5, 1878 in Austinburg, Ohio. Together, they had five children: Grace I. Stevens (1880-1915), Glenn A. Stevens (1885-1917), Guy D. Stevens (1889-1961), Cleon Stevens (1893-1910), and Hazel I. Stevens (1897-1987).

Ironically, Alice died of heart failure on the same day as her son Glenn, perhaps after hearing of his death.
