IMPRESSIVE RITES FOR HORATIO COOKE

Masons and Magicians Take Prominent Part in Funeral

Floral offerings from hundreds of friends were ranged about the casket containing the body of Horatio G. Cooke, honorary president of the Los Angeles Society of Magicians, when funeral services were conducted for him yesterday at the Wilshire Masonic Lodge. Interment was in Rosedale Cemetery.

Pallbearers were made of members of the Wilshire lodge, with which Mr. Cooke became affiliated in the first year of its existence, and of the organization of magicians which he helped form. The regular Masonic ritualistic ceremony was used, and in addition William H. Fisher, First Master of the lodge, delivered an address recounting the life of the aged man and paying tribute to his memory. The deceased served as a scout for Union forces in the Civil War, was invited to entertain President Lincoln when his magic exploits became known, and was visitor at Lincoln's home the night the president was assassinated.

Note: Many websites state that he died June 17th, but the index to California death records says June 23rd.
