Naval Criminal Investigative Service says Mario Arias of Canoga Park, Calif., was an air crew trainee from Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303 of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on Aug. 23, 2010. He was later awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
He was a 2010 graduate of Canoga Park High School. In tribute to Mario, on Veterans Day, Friday, November 11, 2011 at Canoga Park High School students, graduates and friends planned to bring flowers and candles to be placed on the school auditorium steps in his memory. That was to be followed by a memorial service featuring speakers, including his sister Amy Bowen, the high school principal, Pam Hamashita along with fellow Marines from Camp Pendleton.
