MARKEL – On September 9, 1955, at 8:15 a.m., at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew C. Miller, 80 South Main Street, Spring Grove, Lucy Krebs Markel, wife of Robert R. Markel, aged 73 years, 2 months, and 14 days.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Monday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Geiple Funeral Home, Glen Rock. Interment in Stone Church Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Geiple Funeral Home Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Mrs. Robert R. Markel

Spring Grove – Mrs. Lucy Krebs Markel, 73, wife of Robert R. Markel, died yesterday at 8:15 a.m. at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew C. Miller, 80 South Main Street, with whom the Markel’s have lived the past six years.
Mrs. Markel was ill several years and death was caused by complications. The Markel’s formerly lived in the Brodbeck area.
Mrs. Markel was a member of the Lutheran congregation of St. Jacob’s and of the Never Weary class of the Sunday school.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren; a brother, Lewis F. Krebs, Glen Rock; and three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Black, Williamsport; Mrs. Luther Rinehart, Glen Rock, and Mrs. Silas Rohrbaugh, Hanover.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Geiple Funeral Home, Glen Rock, with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Kenneth S. Ehrhart, of Jefferson Lutheran charge, officiating, assisted by Rev. George A. Heisey, of Jefferson Reformed charge. Burial will be in St. Jacob’s Church Cemetery.

Couples Mark 50th Anniversaries

Hanover Junction - Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meckley, Seven Valleys, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Markel, Spring Grove, recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversaries at an all day outing held at Shaffer's picnic grove, near here.
The couples were married Sept. 1, 1901, in a double wedding ceremony at the Lutheran parsonage, near Glenville, by the late Rev. W. H. Ketterman.
Mrs. Markel is the former Miss Lucy Krebs and Mrs. Meckley is the former Miss Amanda Miller.
The Markels are the parents of two daughters, Mrs. Earl A. Miller, Seven Valleys RD 1, and Mrs. Andrew C. Miller, Spring Grove. They also have eight grandchildren. The Meckleys have one daughter, Mrs. Harry Kessler, York.
Part of the grove was decorated in white and yellow for the occasion. The couples received many gifts, including a basket of 50 yellow rosebuds, orchids and carnations. A chicken corn soup supper was served.
Guests were present from Norfolk, Va.; Canton, Ohio, and Codorus, Manchester, Glen Rock, Seven Valleys, Spring Grove, Red Lion, York, Brodbeck, State College, Williamsport, Hanover, New Oxford and New Freedom.
