ONE-CAR ROLLOVER CLAIMS LIFE OF SANPETE'S "SNEAKY PETE"

Hal W. "Sneaky Pete" Hansen, chartered member of the Sanpete county Search and Rescue Patrol, lost his life while returning home from a work trip to Lake Powell 25 Jun 1900.
Hal was a great member and one who has always given 100 percent of his time, money and efforts to the service of others.
His whole life was devoted to the Search and Rescue Patrol, always there to call in assistance for others along his way up and down the road of Central, Ut.
We, as members of the Sanpete Posse Group, are thankful to those who were of the same caliber of person and stopped to call assistance to help our fallen comrad just as he would have done for someone else. This is the kind of great love Hal had for life and for the service to his fellow man.
We still grieve for the loss of our other fallen officer and we are not sure that we deserve to lose these great men to the greater posse commander who reigns over all. If he needs great men on his team we know he now has one of the best sector leaders available in charge now.
Funeral services were held 29 Jun 1990, with millitary honors and interment in the Ephraim Cemetery.
Hal, we all will miss you, we from the posse, for we had no finer bus turner at pageant time than you and your wife, Beverly, who will miss you along with your family.
As a charter member, one of the few left in Sanpete Search and Rescue, badge 1q116 will be retired in your honor for establishing a great patrol.

Black ribbons on our golden stars, Another
officer gone away, Our hearts still grieve
for Roger, Now we weep for Hal today.
Known to us as "Sneaky Pete," A name from
bygone years, I think of all the trails we
rode, And try to fight the tears.
The Sanpete Search and Rescue Patrol, was
a major part of his life, Many hundred hours,
Away from his daughters and wife.
None except the Patrol and Beverly, Know just
how much time he gave, Always one of the first to
roll, When a life we tried to save.
The officers that are here today, will recall
experiences they have had, Riding along with one
sixteen, Some were good and some were bad.
He loved his family, God, and Country, To his
friends he was always true, Now gone to a far
better place, His task on earth is through.
When you see us today in uniform, Try to feel
what's in our hearts, As another one of our
Posse guys, From our ranks departs.
When Beverly gets our country's flag, That Hal has
served so well, The guns that fire the final
salute, Have a story to tell.
And the sound of Taps played sadly, As we lay
our comrade down to rest; Officer Hal W. Hansen,
We salute you, one of our best.

Hansen was killed about 1:51 a.m. Monday on U-24 near Richfield. Troopers said Hansen apparently fell asleep at the wheel, awoke and overcorrected. The vehicle rolled, ejecting Hansen. He was not wearing a seat belt.
