*HEADSTONE IS INCORRECT, misidentifying Jasper Nicholson as "Burton Nicholas"

Son of Jesse Columbus Nicholson and Tabitha "Bertha" Nicholson. Moved with family to Doddridge County, Va (WV) ca. 1859. Enlisted first with Co. H, 7th West Virginia Infantry, but discharged 8/16/62, as he had been absent from duty for four months, sick. Enlisted, May 1, 1863, Weston, West Virginia, in Co. I, 3rd West Virginia Cavalry. Described as age 22, 5'9", black hair, blue eyes, farmer. Captured near Staunton, Virginia, June 8, 1864. Sent to Camp Sumter, Andersonville, Ga. Died 1/17/1865, though some entries in record show death as 12/1/64.
