Obituary

Alvin J. Hurst, born on October 17, 1916 in Huntington Beach, CA, to Andrew Jackson Hurst and Anna Wilmeth, passed away at home on October 14, 2003, age 86, surrounded by family.

He graduated from Huntington Beach High School, UCLA and obtained his teaching credential from USC in 1939. He served in the South Pacific in the 864th Engineer Aviation Battalion during WWII. Upon his return to civilian life, he taught junior high social studies in Hemet, CA, and married his teaching colleague, Margaret Schuman who passed in 1987. Returning to Orange County, he opened the Stanton Feed Co. in Stanton, CA in 1948. There he enjoyed serving the community and caring for a wide range of animals for 56 years.

Preceded in death by parents and two brothers and two sisters, Perry, Lee, Iva and Gladys.

Survived by his wife, Carol Ann, niece, Dolores Reed, and nephews, Duane Hurst (Gilberta), Elvin Hurst, Danny Hurst; great-nieces, Diane Peck, Sandy Reed, Kimberlei Hurst, Karil Hurst, Debra Buss, and great nephews, Darryl Reed, Mark Reed, and Chuck Hurst, foster-daughter Rene Hurst and family and special friend and loyal employee, Russell Vassar.

Memorial service and interment was held on October 19, 2003, at Westminster Memorial Park, Westminster, CA.
