HANNIBAL - Louis "L.J." Coleman, 87, of Hannibal, died at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Grand View Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Jeff Anderson will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal with full military honors provided by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55 of Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Coleman was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Philadelphia, the son of Grover Coleman and Nellie Frances Wolfe Coleman.
He married Emma Ruth Lamberson on April 5, 1941, in Palmyra. She preceded him in death July 11, 2002.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Tony and Donna Jones of McHenry, Ill.; and his brother, Noble Coleman of Hannibal.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Coleman had lived in this area all his life and he worked many years as an electrical engineer for the city of Hannibal in the power plant before retiring. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55, both in Hannibal.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, where he was in the battles of the Philippines, Bismarck Archipelago and Luzon, during which he received three Bronze Stars.
He loved walking, working in his yard, reading, listening to country music, and watching baseball and golf.
Memorials may be made to either the Calvary Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.
