Clara Fix was born the second of four children to Jesse Fix and Susan E. (Fultz) Fix, probably in Kanwaka, Douglas County, KS.

She married John Matthew Nichols in about 1902, supposedly in California. On 16 Oct 1918, she gave birth to twin boys: Melven Melwood and Elven Elwood.

In 1927, John was sent to prison for 2nd degree arson in Spokane. In 1930, Clara and the boys were living in Spokane, WA; by 1940 they had moved across the state line and were living in Priest River, Idaho.

Clara had been arrested in the 1930s for a liquor violation during Prohibition. She died on 27 Jan 1950 and was buried next to John in Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane.
