Sgt. Laney Simone: The body of Sgt. Laney Simone, 21, son of Domonic and Theresa B. Simone, Fairpoint, will arrive at St. Clairsville tonight and will be taken to the Beck Funeral home. Thursday morning it will be removed to the home of his parents at Fairpoint.


Sgt. Simone was killed in action near Achen, Germany, Feb 7, 1945, while servicing with Company G, 311 Infantry, 78th division.


The deceased was born at Fairpoint, Feb 19, 1924 and lived his entire life at that place. He was a member of the 1942 graduating class of St. Clairsville High School. Simone entered the service March 1943 and received his basic training at Camp Butner, NC and Camp Pickett, VA., leaving for overseas Oct 4, 1944. Only one soldier from Sgt. Simone's Company leaving the states is living today, he is Sgt Jones of Joplin, Missouri.


Surviving besides the parents, are one brother, Mario J. Simone and one half-brother, Samuel Mazzie, both of Fairpoint. Funeral services will be held from the family residence, Saturday afternoon at 2 in charge of Rev. Charles W. Hamilton, minister of the St. Clairsville Methodist Church. Military interment will take place in Union Cemetery in charge of St. Clair district Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5356.
