Gerry was born on June 30, 1920 to Solomon and Arvetta (Kent) McCann in Waco, Texas. She was a longtime resident of Waco and a member of North Waco Baptist Church. Gerry graduated from Baylor University with a Masters Degree and was a teacher in Waco and Corpus Christi for 35 years. She was part of the Baylor Alumni for over 50 years, American Association of University Women and Retired Teachers Association. Gerry loved her family and they meant the world to her. She loved playing
bridge, bingo and board games.
Gerry leaves behind her son, James D. and wife, Mary; daughter, Melissa Coleman and husband, Doug; grandsons, Michael and Stephen Surovik; granddaughters, Stephanie Smith, Laura Ard, Lisa McMillan and Christie Williams; great-grandchildren, Tom, Thomas, Ryane, Summer, Phoenix, Griffin, Audrey and Nathan; closest and dearest friends in Waco and at Harbor Place Retirement Community in Corpus Christi.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be given to Baylor University or North Waco Baptist Church.
